The Science of Climate Change and the Foreseeable Impacts on Southern California Communities

“The New Normal”

October 13, 2018

10:00 A.M.

California State University, San Bernardino

Pfau Library, Room PL-5005 (5th floor)

Presented by:

Dr. Hoori Ajami, Assistant Professor of Groundwater Hydrology, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of California, Riverside; and

Susan Lien Longville, Coordinator of the California Alluvial Fan Task Force that published an Integrated Approach for Sustainable Development on Alluvial Fans.

Dr. Ajami will discuss the current state of knowledge about the impact of climate change on water resources as it relates to California: opportunities and the path forward.

Ms. Longville will discuss climate change impacts in communities: longer and more severe droughts, more frequent wildfires at the urban interface followed by deadly post-fire debris flows, and opportunities for weathering the future with more sustainable land-use decisions.
