Gov Docs: American Time Use

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released the 2009 American Time Use Survey. The survey details how much time Americans spend working, doing household activities, caring for children, and engaging in sports and leisure activities.

Interesting facts:

  • On an average day, 20 percent of men did housework–such as cleaning or doing laundry–compared with 51 percent of women.
  • Watching TV was the leisure activity that occupied the most time (2.8 hours per day), accounting for about half of leisure time, on average, for those age 15 and over.
