Fat Talk Free Week

Did you know that 54% of women would rather be hit by a truck than be fat? Or that 90% of all women 15 to 64 worldwide want to change at least one aspect of their physical appearance, with body weight ranking the highest?

This week, CSUSB Recreational Sports, Student Health and Psychological Counseling Center, Women’s Resource Center, Pfau Library, SMSU Program Board, Reflection’s Body Image, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, and Zeta Tau Alpha bring you Fat Talk Free Week. Below are this week’s events.

November 1 – November 12

“Wish Jeans” Jean Drive – Donate those jeans you “wish you could fit into” to make a stand against negative body image. Drop-off locations in the Student Recreation and Fitness Center and the Women’s Resource Center. All donations go to the Campesino Project.

November 1-5

Fat Talk Free Pledges – Sign a pledge to end Fat Talk in the Student Recreation and Fitness Center, the Student Health and Psychological Counseling Center or the Women’s Resource Center.

November 1

Body Image Discussion Group in the Women’s Resource Center (11:30am – 1:00pm)- Discuss the affects of the media and society on body image with your peers.

November 2

Body Positive with Jennifer Gless in the Panorama Room (2:30pm – 3:30pm) – Assaulted by negative body messages on a daily basis from the media, “well-meaning” family members, peers, and even friends, many of us are tempted to take in those negative messages and turn against our own bodies. This workshop will provide you with tips and tools to love the body you occupy.

November 3

“America the Beautiful” Film Screening in the SMSU Theater (12:00pm-2:00pm) – Filmmaker Darryl Roberts examines America’s obsession with beauty. This film uncovers secrets, confessions and the harsh realities of our nation’s quest for physical perfection.

November 4
