Scientific Papers and Retractions

NPR recently featured two stories about problems with the publication histories of scientific research articles. Scientific Retractions on the Rise details some of the problems of published articles that were later retracted by the journals where they appeared due to ethical or methodological questions. Even retracted articles had high citation rates for up to a decade later, indicating that many researchers had not noticed that the articles were retracted. The interview is with Dr. Ivan Oransky of the blog Retraction Watch.

If Science Takes A Wrong Turn, Who Rights It? further discusses the retraction issue with Dr. Oransky and Dr. R. Grant Steen.
