CSUSB is participating in a CSU-sponsored pilot project that allows library users to determine when an ebook is purchased–an idea known as “Patron Driven Acquisition.” Here’s how it works: records for a selected pool of ebooks are loaded in the library catalog. However, the library doesn’t actually purchase one of the books permanently until a user views that book three times.
Currently, we have more than 700 ebook records from this project loaded in our catalog. Since Fall classes began around the state, about 60 titles have been purchased for the whole CSU to keep and use–including 7 because of CSUSB use!
The project will continue into next year and more records will be added to expand the pool of potential selections.
