Since 1991, presidents of both political parties have designated March as Irish American Heritage Month to recognize the contribution that Irish immigrants and their descendants played in the formation of the U.S. Ireland gave birth to nine signers of the Declaration of Independence, more than twenty of Washington’s generals, and the inventor of the modern submarine, among many others. In fact, Henry Ford, who revolutionized factory production with the assembly line for the Model T, is of Irish descent. However, in spite of all this the public is largely unaware of the Irish journey and their contributions to America.
