(500) Days of Summer

Five stars.

2009, 95 min. Directed by Marc Webb.

Aspiring architect Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) meets Summer (Zooey Deschanel) who has just been hired as an administrative assistant at a greeting card company in Los Angeles. He falls for her, but he quickly discovers he and she have differing views on love and relationships. The film chronicles the 500 days of their relationship in nonlinear fashion, with amusing side comments by his younger sister (Chloë Grace Moretz) and friend (Matthew Gray Gubler). Energetic song and dance sequences set against iconic downtown LA landmarks. Great soundtrack includes Regina Spektor, Hall & Oates, and the Temper Trap.
